One Moment at a Time

If you are a parent of young children, the first day of school was no doubt buzzing with excitement to get out the door. If you then drove home alone, there was silence, peace, and a tiny voice whispering β€œSomeday they will be grown-up and gone.” I remember hearing that voice, and it got louder through the years, and brought a bittersweet breeze with it as well. If you are a grandparent, there is another level of emotion that hits late August. For me, the oldest child of my oldest child went to college! Eighteen years ago I held her in my arms as she nuzzled my cheek at one day old. I shed tears with the graduation of each of my 6 children, and the day my granddaughter left for college. And I shed tears watching my 5 yr old grandson get in line for his first day of kindergarten, with his matching back pack and lunch bag. Now these tears usually appear with a wobbly smile, as these are tears of love, change, and realizing there is no rewind with anybody. If one is wise, no matter what age you are, embrace the moment, with a friend, child, parent, grandparent, grandchild and spouse. There is one thing we are certain of in life, and that is change. And my puddle of tears is actually a puddle of love and peace. I am more aware than ever that God is directing me and those around me, and it is ok to not see around the bend. There is going to be change, but we can trust that our fears, struggles and dreams are all part of our stories written by the Author of the universe. Embrace your moments today, and be blessed!! πŸ™‚
